The Pain Glass Painting series illuminates and compartmentalizes real, private and sometimes embarrassing moments. Each painting depicts a specific point at which something important and life changing happened. Levels of realism and abstraction vary from painting to painting. Certain paintings are surreal and others are clearly influenced by photography. All the paintings in the series are luminous, jewel toned and have shapes that are outlined throughout, much alike stained glass work. By mimicking the format of stained glass, the series conveys a message of worship as stained glass can be found in various houses of worship. Stained glass, alike painting, has often been a medium of choice for depicting multitudes of religious scenes and messages. Conversely, The Pain Glass Series portrays various human scenarios and it raises them to the level of the sacred. The series is a tribute to the human experience both beautiful and difficult.
One a day drawings
I complete a drawing everyday at my desk during the work day. Sometimes I work with crayons, other times I work with pen. I never start with an idea for the drawing. I just start to draw and it becomes something. Inevitably because I am at work, work themes seep into my drawings. Personal problems and stresses rear their heads here as well. When I complete my drawings, I feel like something is resolved for me. I can see what it is. I have created it and ultimately, if I wanted to, I could destroy it. I am limited in terms of mediums I can use and how large I can make my drawings because I am at work. I am also always stuffing them away so no one can see them as they walk by. These drawings are a sort of diary of my daily thoughts.
